I accompanied painter Doug Gilbert on October 21, 2007, at ArtSpace in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, using an Akai EWI4000s wind synthesizer with a Vox ToneLab LE for sound processing and a Boss DD-20 for looping.

Although I prepared two 45-minute sets, mostly based on pieces from The Anatomy Of Waves, I left sufficient space within this framework for in-the-moment responses to what Doug was creating on canvas. During one such moment in the second set, components of Robert Fripp's soundscapes Time Stands Still and At The End Of Time "flew by" (to paraphrase Fripp-speak). It made sense to explore and transition down this avenue despite the differences in keys and timbres from what had been prepared.

Since then I've revisted this combination (with some classic-style Frippertronics thrown in as well), which I call Time Fantasia, and I've picked two versions that are representative of the ones I've recorded over the last few months. I often explore other folk's music as a way of clearing the palate between projects. I wouldn't call these two takes "covers" per se, but instead are meant to approach the spirit and commitment of Robert's originals.

I encourage everyone to explore and consider downloading the two RF shows (and more) that inform these versions:
